Amritsar: The Shiromani Akali Dal (Revolutionary) has suffered a setback in the Baba Bakala constituency after its senior leader and three-time former Akali MLA Ranjit Singh Chhajjalwaddi joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) along with his son.
His son, Satinderjit Singh Chhajjalwaddi, who was serving as the current halqa in-charge of the Akali Dal (Revolutionary) from Baba Bakala, also joined the ruling party.
The two were welcomed into the AAP by Rajbir Singh Ghumman, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Ghumman welcomed the Chhajjalwaddi family and assured them of due respect and responsibility within the party.
The move is being viewed by political circles as a boost for AAP’s organisational position in Baba Bakala, ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
The induction comes as political parties in Punjab intensify their organisational preparations and outreach ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls.
