Nuh: Two suspected cow smugglers were injured in an encounter with the Firozpur Jhirka Crime Staff (CS) team early Sunday morning in the Nuh area. Police said one of the injured suspects had a ₹3,000 reward announced by Rajasthan Police.
The encounter took place at around 3.30am in an area under the jurisdiction of Sadar Nuh police station. Both suspects suffered bullet injuries to their legs and were taken into custody before being admitted to Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Medical College and Hospital in Nalhar, Nuh.
According to police, two other suspects travelling with them managed to escape by taking advantage of the darkness.
Police spokesperson said the team, led by Firozpur Jhirka Crime Unit in-charge Sub-Inspector Mahender Singh, had received information that a group of suspected cow smugglers would transport cattle from Gurugram through Sohna and Nuh towards Rajasthan.
Acting on the information, police set up a checkpoint near a village. After some time, an Ertiga approached the area but stopped around 50-60 metres before the checkpoint and attempted to turn back.
Police said that when officers tried to stop the vehicle using their official vehicle, the driver allegedly rammed the Ertiga into the police vehicle. A person sitting in the front seat then allegedly opened fire directly at the police team.
Police said officers returned fire, during which two suspects were injured. The two other occupants of the vehicle allegedly fled from the spot.
The investigation is underway.
