London: A 17-year-old Sikh youth, Ranbir Singh, was killed in a road accident in Southall, south-west London, early on Saturday. British police have appealed to members of the public who witnessed the crash to come forward and assist with the investigation.
Ranbir Singh was struck by a Ford Mustang in Southall and died after police arrived at the scene. The Metropolitan Police, assisted by the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade, arrested the vehicle’s 20-year-old driver, Sukhvir Singh.
Sukhvir Singh has been charged with dangerous driving, driving without a licence and using a vehicle without insurance. He appeared at a London court on Monday and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on October 19.
The Metropolitan Police said Ranbir died at the scene despite medical assistance. His family has been informed and is receiving ongoing support from specially trained officers.
A 26-year-old man was also seriously injured in the crash and remains in hospital.
Police are particularly seeking anyone with CCTV, doorbell footage, mobile phone recordings or dashcam footage that could assist their investigation.
Metropolitan Police Detective Inspector Fiaz Janjua said a young man had lost his life and another remained seriously injured in hospital. He said a person had been charged in connection with the incident, but the investigation was continuing to establish the full circumstances leading up to the collision.
Police have urged anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward with information that could assist the investigation.
