Mohali: The Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) search operation at the GMADA headquarters in Phase 8, Mohali, entered its second day on Wednesday, with indications that the operation may continue for some more time.
Mattresses were seen being brought to the GMADA office, suggesting that officials and investigators may have to remain at the premises for an extended period.
The raid began on Tuesday morning, and most ED officials and investigators were reportedly not allowed to leave the premises overnight. Mattresses were arranged from a nearby gurdwara, while food was being provided by the owner of a local sweets shop.
Punjab Housing Secretary Vikas Garg, whose role is also under the scope of the investigation, was taken to his residence for some time on Wednesday afternoon in an ED vehicle. According to sources cited in the report, he left through a gate where no media personnel were present and later returned through the same gate.
After sealing three floors of the building and expanding the scope of the search, the ED sought additional personnel to assist with the operation.
More than 100 personnel from the ED and central forces are currently present inside the Phase 8 building, apart from the investigating officers.
As evening approached, additional mattresses were brought in to make arrangements for the stay of the raiding team and officials. The mattresses were transported on a two-wheeler.
