Amritsar: The body of Kuljit Singh Sandhu, a serving Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sarpanch and former army personnel, was found by the roadside on Wednesday in Mehmad Mandarawala village in the Ajnala area of Amritsar. He had been missing for two days.
According to his family, Kuljit Singh left home around 10.15am on September 21 for work but did not return. The family searched several places for him but could not trace him.
After his body was found in Ramdas, a pall of gloom descended on the family.
Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Aujla also reached the spot after receiving information about the body. He said the family had contacted him on Tuesday evening. Aujla claimed that despite Kuljit Singh’s mobile phone remaining switched on for around 14 hours, the family had been asked to search different locations.
Aujla alleged that the death could be a planned murder and demanded a thorough investigation, a postmortem by a board of doctors and justice for the family.
Police have taken the body into custody and started an investigation. They are trying to establish how Kuljit Singh reached Ramdas and the circumstances surrounding his death. Investigators are also examining possible clues from the surrounding area.
The exact cause of death will be established after the postmortem report and completion of the investigation.
