Chandigarh: Former Enforcement Directorate (ED) deputy director Niranjan Singh has announced his decision to leave the Akali Dal ‘Waris Punjab De’, just four days after joining the party and beginning his political career.
Niranjan Singh announced his decision in a social media post on Sunday. He said he had extended his support to the party over issues including drug abuse, corruption, gangsterism, extortion and alleged involvement of police personnel in drug trafficking in Punjab.
However, he said he had differences with the party over certain matters that were “non-negotiable” for him. He also said that the conduct of people in public life should be in accordance with the Indian Constitution.
Niranjan Singh wished the Akali Dal ‘Waris Punjab De’ well in the future.
The former ED officer and former Punjab Police DSP Balwinder Singh Sekhon had formally joined the party in Chandigarh on September 23. There had been speculation that the party was preparing to field Niranjan Singh from the Kartarpur Assembly constituency in the upcoming elections.
According to the report, criticism of Niranjan Singh also surfaced on social media after he joined the party.
