Patiala: A case of alleged sexual assault of a seven-year-old girl in Bhunarheri village has come to light, with police officials confirming the incident on Sunday.
According to the police, the incident took place on Saturday evening. After the matter came to light, the girl was immediately taken to hospital for medical examination and treatment. She was undergoing treatment at the hospital at the time of filing the report.
Based on the statement of the girl’s family, police registered a case at the Rural police station under Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against Pritam Singh, a resident of Bhunarheri village.
Police officials said the accused had not been arrested so far, although raids were being conducted at his possible locations.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the incident allegedly occurred when the minor had gone outside to play. At around 4.45pm, Pritam Singh, locally known as ‘Amrood Wala Uncle’, allegedly took the girl to his house on the pretext of giving her something to eat. Police said he allegedly took her into a room and sexually assaulted her.
The girl later returned home and informed her family members about the incident, following which they alerted the police.
