Mansa: Nihang leader Raja Raj Singh on Thursday appealed to protesters seeking justice for slain anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta to support his wife, Manpreet Kaur, as a candidate in the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Addressing protesters in Mansa, Raj Singh claimed that Manpreet could help curb drug-related activities in the district if elected to the state assembly.
He also urged Jhotta’s father, Bhim Singh, to support Manpreet’s entry into politics. Bhim Singh has previously maintained that he has no intention of joining politics and is not associated with any political party.
There has been no announcement from Manpreet Kaur about contesting the elections.
Meanwhile, Jhotta’s body remains at the civil hospital mortuary, with the postmortem yet to be conducted as his family and supporters continue their protest over several demands, including the resignations of Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann and the state’s director general of police.
Manpreet said on Thursday evening that following discussions with the action committee, the family had decided not to consent to the postmortem until all its demands were accepted.
Earlier, Bhim Singh said the Sikh community had advised the family to secure acceptance of its demands before allowing the postmortem. He added that the family did not want Jhotta’s body to remain in the mortuary but insisted that its concerns must first be addressed.
