Viral video of girl allegedly under influence of drugs surfaces in Bathinda

Bathinda: A video purportedly showing a girl in an alleged drug-induced state at Bathinda’s Dana Mandi has gone viral on social media, prompting police to intervene and admit her to a government de-addiction centre for treatment.

The 18-second video appears to show the girl struggling to stand and repeatedly collapsing. Bathinda police said she was admitted to the government de-addiction centre on Thursday.

Kotwali SHO Yadvinder Singh said the girl is from the Jaito area of Faridkot district. Sources said her mother had also reached the hospital. Police said they were yet to ascertain how and why she reached Bathinda.

Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal also shared the video on his X account and criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government over the drug issue. He said the visuals had “shaken the soul of Punjab” and alleged that the government had failed to protect the state’s youth despite its “War Against Drugs” campaign.

The incident comes amid renewed debate over drug use in Bathinda following the circulation of several videos in recent weeks.

Last month, the Akali Dal shared an alleged sting video claiming that “chitta” was being openly sold in Sangat Kalan village. Police subsequently registered a case, arrested suspects and conducted searches in the area.

A few days later, the discovery of a young man’s body in Jai Singh Wala village with a syringe reportedly inserted in his arm also raised concerns over drug use in the district.
