Chitkara University violence: Two arrested for allegedly spreading misleading messages

Patiala: Patiala Police have arrested two people in connection with the student unrest at Chitkara University in Rajpura during the intervening night of September 25 and 26, 2026. The accused have been booked for allegedly spreading misleading rumours through social media and provoking students.

According to a Patiala Police spokesperson, the arrested accused have been identified as Himanshu, a resident of Nangal, and Aryan, a resident of Ambala.

Following the incident, an FIR was registered at Banur police station and a detailed investigation was launched. Police said social media activity and messages allegedly circulated by students and other individuals through different platforms were examined as part of the investigation.

Police said the investigation found that the two arrested accused allegedly circulated and promoted misleading messages through various social media groups, which allegedly provoked students and contributed to tension on the university campus.

So far, two accused have been arrested and 10 others have been named in the FIR. Police teams have been sent to different locations to trace the remaining accused.

Officials said further investigation is underway to identify others allegedly involved in spreading misinformation, provoking students, damaging public property and obstructing officials in the discharge of their duties, and to establish their respective roles.
