Rahul Gandhi released after two-hour detention in Delhi

New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi was released by Delhi Police after being detained for around two hours following Tuesday’s protest in the capital.

After his release, Gandhi left for his residence. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other opposition leaders detained during the protest were also released.

The leaders had staged a sit-in at Akashvani Bhawan after police stopped their march towards the Election Commission’s office. The protest, led by opposition parties over their demands concerning the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, continued for more than eight hours.

Police removed the protesters from the premises at around 8pm on Tuesday and detained Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and several other opposition leaders.

The leaders were later released after spending around two hours in police custody.
