Amit Shah to visit families of anti-drug activists killed in Punjab on October 20

Chandigarh: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday announced that he would visit Punjab on October 20 to meet the families of people who lost their lives after raising their voices against the alleged growing drug trade in the state.

Shah said he would travel to Mansa, Sangrur and Gurdaspur to meet the families of Parvinder Singh Jhotta, Gulzar Singh and Bikramjit Singh, respectively. The three had reportedly spoken out against the alleged open sale of synthetic drugs in the border state.

In a post on social media platform X, Shah accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of failing to curb the drug menace, claiming that its policies had contributed to a situation in which numerous families had lost their children.

He said he would meet the families of those who had allegedly lost their lives after speaking out against drug traffickers, whom he accused of operating under the purported protection of the state government.

Shah expressed sympathy for the families, saying their loss was difficult to put into words. His remarks come amid an escalating political debate over drug trafficking in Punjab and demands for accountability following Jhotta’s killing.
