Jalandhar News: A community initiative led by Nitin Kohli, Aam Aadmi Party’s Jalandhar Central constituency in-charge, will bring together young volunteers for a post-Dussehra clean-up and plantation drive at Adarsh Nagar Park on October 21.
Organised by ‘Nitin De Saathi’, the initiative, titled ‘Trash-a-thon: The Morning After Dussehra’, will begin at 7 am near the park’s Chowpatty area. It aims to encourage citizens, particularly young people, to help keep public spaces clean after festive celebrations and support sanitation workers.
Public places are often left with litter, disposable items and other waste after Dussehra celebrations. Through the campaign, organisers aim to promote shared civic responsibility by encouraging volunteers to take part in cleaning activities rather than leaving the entire task to sanitation staff.
The drive will also include plantation activities to promote greener public spaces. The organisers said the initiative was intended to encourage practical environmental action, particularly amid concerns over pollution and the increase in waste during festivals.
Speaking about the campaign, Kohli said festivals brought people together to celebrate and should also inspire them to take responsibility for shared spaces. He added that the initiative aimed to encourage young people to set an example by helping clean their surroundings and planting trees for a greener future.
Residents and young volunteers have been invited to join the drive on October 21. The campaign carries the message that a cleaner Jalandhar Central begins with individual participation and collective effort.
The organisers envision expanding the initiative across Punjab and eventually inspiring similar community-led clean-up and plantation drives in other parts of India.
