Chandigarh: Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Monday said Union home minister Amit Shah’s visit to the state on Tuesday would bring renewed hope to families affected by drug-related issues, adding that their concerns would be heard and efforts made to ensure justice.
Shah announced on Sunday that he would visit Punjab on October 20 to meet the families of three young men who recently lost their lives after raising their voices against drug abuse and trafficking.
According to Dhillon, Shah will meet the family of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta in Mansa, the family of Gulzar Singh in Toor Banjara village in Sangrur district, and the family of Bikramjit Singh in Mari Panwan village in Gurdaspur district.
In a statement, Dhillon said the visit was significant given Punjab’s serious drug problem and growing public concern over the issue. He said the meetings would provide an opportunity to listen to the affected families and address their concerns.
Jhotta’s killing on October 13 has triggered protests across Punjab, with his family and supporters demanding a CBI investigation and action against those responsible.
