Daler Mehndi’s performance interrupted, Uttarakhand minister questions singer’s quality

Tehri: A performance by Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi at a cultural evening in Uttarakhand’s Tehri district was disrupted on Sunday night after technical issues triggered an uproar among the audience, prompting state cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal to intervene on stage.
The incident took place during the cultural programme at the Siddhpeeth Maa Kunjapuri Tourism and Development Fair in the Narendra Nagar area. According to reports, the singer’s live vocals and the background soundtrack appeared out of sync, drawing complaints and protests from the audience.
Amid the commotion, Uniyal, who represents the area and holds the forest and health portfolios, went on stage and expressed his displeasure. He told Mehndi that the singer had been paid to entertain the audience and that people had come specifically to listen to him, so the performance should meet the expected standards.
Referring to the religious significance of the Navratri event, the minister also stressed the need to maintain the decorum of the programme. He reportedly told the singer, “You are unable to speak properly; how will you sing?”
The exchange created an uncomfortable atmosphere on stage for a brief period as the disruption overshadowed the cultural evening.
