Chandigarh: Government bus services resumed across much of Punjab on Saturday afternoon after contract employees of PRTC, PUNBUS and Punjab Roadways called off their four-day strike following talks with state Finance and Transport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
The strike had severely disrupted public transport across the state, leaving daily commuters, students and office-goers struggling to reach their destinations. The resumption of services brought relief to passengers who had faced difficulties over the past four days.
Union leaders said the decision to end the strike was taken after they received written orders from the government concerning their demands.
Before the agreement, Cheema visited the PRTC headquarters in Patiala and held a meeting with representatives of various employee unions.
After the meeting, the minister described the discussions as positive and said the government had agreed to the employees’ legitimate demands, resolving the dispute.
