Amritsar: Sri Akal Takht Sahib jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj has appealed to the Sikh community worldwide to hold prayers on October 28 for justice for the family of anti-drug activist Parminder Singh Jhotta and for the well-being of Punjab’s youth.
In his message to the Guru Khalsa Panth, the jathedar urged gurdwaras in India and abroad to organise ardas for the family, who have been seeking justice following Jhotta’s death.
He warned that drug abuse was steadily destroying Punjab’s younger generation and said governments must dismantle networks involved in the distribution of medicinal drugs and synthetic narcotics to prevent serious consequences for the state’s youth.
The jathedar also called on people from all sections of society to support Jhotta’s family in its fight for justice.
Acknowledging that drug abuse was a global problem, he said Sikh teachings prohibited the use of intoxicants and encouraged followers to lead a truthful and disciplined life in accordance with the principles of Gurmat.
