AAP leaders target Majithia over ₹736.96 crore alleged transactions

Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders in Punjab on Wednesday launched an attack on Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia after the Punjab Vigilance Bureau filed a chargesheet in a disproportionate assets case against him in a Mohali court.

Finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the nearly 40,000-page chargesheet had brought to light alleged financial transactions worth ₹736.96 crore linked to the case.

Cheema alleged that drug abuse had spread across Punjab during the 2007-2017 Akali Dal-BJP government, leaving people to bear the consequences. He further accused Union home minister Amit Shah and Majithia of joining hands to expand the alleged drug network in the state. These claims are political allegations and have not been established as facts.

AAP Punjab president and cabinet minister Aman Arora also criticised the Akali leadership, saying the spread of drugs between 2007 and 2017 had caused suffering for countless families.

Arora said people in Punjab had not forgotten those years and urged them not to be misled by the parties involved.

The chargesheet forms part of the ongoing legal proceedings against Majithia, and the allegations remain to be tested in court.
