Jalandhar: Rajya Sabha member and environmental activist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal on Wednesday met Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann in Jalandhar and raised issues concerning the Buddha Dariya, Kala Sanghian drain, Chitti Bein, a road along the Dhusi bundh and dairy waste management in Ludhiana.
Following the meeting, Mann decided to convene a meeting of senior officials from the concerned departments to discuss solutions to the problems.
During the meeting, Seechewal highlighted difficulties in collecting cattle dung from dairies in Ludhiana. He said the municipal corporation had awarded a three-year contract worth ₹22 crore for the work. Previously, dairy owners paid ₹13 per animal for dung collection, and the system operated smoothly, he said. Seechewal added that the current arrangements had created problems and called for a permanent solution.
He also raised concerns over expenditure on the Kala Sanghian drain. Around ₹28 crore was spent on stone lining along a 15-km stretch of the drain under the Smart City project, while another ₹5 crore was earmarked for maintenance.
The meeting focused on addressing pollution-related concerns and improving the management and maintenance of key water bodies and infrastructure in the region.
