Daljit Singh cremation remains stalled as family seeks release of 40 accused

Mansa: The deadlock over the cremation of Daljit Singh, a resident of Bhamme Kalan village in Mansa district, continued on Sunday, with the village panchayat and some of his relatives reaching the ongoing protest in Mansa to persuade his wife and mother to agree to the last rites.

Although Daljit’s father and some relatives have reportedly consented to the cremation, the matter remains unresolved. During the meeting at the protest site, a demand was raised before the panchayat that all those named in the case be released immediately before the cremation takes place.

Police have registered a case against 40 people under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and other serious provisions of the law in connection with the matter.

The serious charges have made the demand for immediate release of the accused legally complicated, as their release would have to follow due legal procedures.

With the family members yet to reach a consensus and the demand for the release of the accused remaining unresolved, uncertainty over Daljit Singh’s cremation continues.
