Jalandhar: Two young men were killed after their car rammed into a municipal corporation tractor-trolley parked on a flyover near the Police Lines in Jalandhar in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Vidit Aulakh, 18-19, son of Dinesh Aulakh, owner of music company Speed Records, and Aarav Talwar, 18-19, son of the owner of Pappi Sweets.

According to preliminary information, the two friends were returning from a birthday party in a Volkswagen car when the accident occurred. The car was travelling from BMC Chowk towards BSF Chowk when it crashed into the tractor-trolley parked on the flyover for cleaning work.

Police said municipal sanitation workers were cleaning the flyover at the time, and the tractor-trolley had been stationed on the road to collect garbage.

Baradari station house officer Sahil Chaudhary said five youths were initially travelling in the car, but three of them had got off and returned to their respective homes shortly before the crash.

The accident triggered grief among the two families and residents of the city. The SHO said the families declined to pursue police or legal action. After completing the necessary formalities, police handed over the bodies to the families.
