New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday warned that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would eventually be removed from office and jailed on charges of treason, while asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah would also face legal action over alleged vote theft.
Addressing the INDIA bloc’s rally against alleged electoral irregularities at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, Rahul said the large turnout had sent a clear message to Modi, Shah and the chief election commissioner.
Referring to Shah’s reported remark that Modi was not going anywhere, Rahul said the prime minister would not be allowed to escape accountability. He further warned that the opposition would pursue legal action against Modi and Shah after taking up the matter concerning Kumar.
“You should understand that after Gyanesh Kumar, we will stand against you as well,” Rahul said, alleging that votes had been stolen and that those responsible would face legal consequences.
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha described the gathering as the voice of young people, farmers and workers rather than that of any particular political party or leader.
He said the protesters were sending a message that they would not allow democracy and the Constitution to be weakened in India.
Responding to a question about his religion, Rahul said his religion was to raise the voice of the people of the country.
He also asserted that no individual, regardless of their power or wealth, could be greater than the Constitution.
