Chandigarh: Speculation over a possible Akali-BJP alliance has intensified ahead of the Punjab assembly elections, with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal hinting that clarity on the issue could emerge soon.
Speaking to reporters in Chandigarh on Monday, Badal said he was not a “pandit” who could announce a decision immediately, but added that everyone would know about the alliance “in a short time”.
Badal had earlier said the SAD’s doors were open for alliances with parties that agreed with its ideology, excluding the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
He also claimed that AAP leaders, including legislators, were unhappy with the party’s functioning and would leave it one by one before the assembly elections.
Targeting Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann, Badal predicted that he would lose the upcoming assembly election from Dhuri, alleging that public resentment against AAP was growing.
He claimed that voters would reject AAP and bring the SAD back to power in the state.
