Raghav Chadha writes to Finance Minister; seeks special package for farmers
New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has written a letter to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman about the damage caused to crops due to the recent rains in Punjab, demanding that a special package be given to Punjab in such a situation.
Crops have been badly damaged due to the rains. The state government has announced compensation on its behalf but still the farmers need help, he said.
According to the information, Raghav Chadha had visited various villages of the state on Friday. During this time, he met the farmers and got to know their problems. Not only this, he also visited the fields to know about the damage to crops due to the rains.
Raghav Chadha has written in his letter that about 14 lakh hectares of crops have been destroyed in Punjab. In such a situation, it is very important to help the farmers, they have demanded immediate payment.
The government has announced a compensation of Rs 15,000 per acre.
In a tweet, Chadha said, “Unseasonal rains & hailstorms have wreaked havoc across Punjab destroying wheat crops. I visited a few farms yesterday and it was heartbreaking to listen to the grief of farmers, who work hard to put food on our plates, but will now find it difficult to feed their families. “
He said that While Bhagwant Mann Govt has provided record compensation to farmers, it is Centre’s duty too to support farmers. I have written a letter to Union Finance Minister seeking a special package. Have also annexed a packet of withered wheat to enable her to understand the gravity.
