Post Matric Scholarship: Punjab High Court slams Punjab govt on post-matric scholarship case
Punjab News: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has pulled up the Punjab government for not issuing post-matric scholarships to students studying in private colleges in the state.
In the case of post-matric scholarship, the High Court has now ordered the Punjab Chief Secretary to summon him if the amount is not released by July 4.
The government said the audit is yet to be completed, so it cannot release Rs 400 crore. On this, the high court said that it is an attempt to delay the matter, if the amount is not released by the next hearing, then the Chief Secretary will have to appear in the High Court on July 4 and respond to it.
The high court even said that if the government does not release this amount, then this amount can be recovered from the amount spent on advertisements, but later directed the government to release this amount till the next hearing.
On May 3, the high court had directed the Punjab government to release 40 per cent of the pending amount of rs 1,084 crore post-matric scholarship, or Rs 400 crore, within about three weeks.
More than 3,36,000 Dalit students of 1,855 private colleges in Punjab owe Rs 1,084 crore for post-matric scholarship.
After the Punjab government kept the matter pending, the high court had directed the Punjab government to release 40 per cent of the amount within three weeks.
