Vigilance Bureau nabs Hoshiarpur Clerk red handed accepting bribe of Rs. 10,000

Punjab E News(PEN NEWS): The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Clerk Gagan posted at Block Primary Education Office, Hajipur, district Hoshiarpur, red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000/-.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of village Sultanpur district Malerkotla.

He informed that the complainant had approached the BPEO Office Hajipur regarding Child Care Leave for his wife, an ETT Teacher posted at Government Elementary School, village Sahora, Block Hajipur, district Hoshiarpur.

During his visit to the office, he met accused Clerk, who later contacted him through phone call and demanded a bribe of Rs.10,000 to get the child care leave of complainant’s wife sanctioned. The complainant recorded the conversation regarding demanding for bribe.

Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, complainant approached the VB range Jalandhar. Acting on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused Clerk was arrested red handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 10,000/- from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses.The tainted currency notes were recovered from his possession.

In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Jalandhar and further investigation into this case is under progress.
