Liquor contractor, associates open firing at marriage resort in Amritsar: NRI family says ‘won’t go back to US till justice not delivered’

Amritsar: Even after a month, Liquor contractors and vendors opened fire during a wedding ceremony of an NRI family in Amritsar, the family has not yet get the justice.

NRI affairs minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal had assured NRI family after the incident that he himself would intervene in the matter and personally play a role in bringing the culprits to book.
A month after the incident, the family has once again alleged that neither the false cases registered against their relatives have been quashed nor the Punjab government is taking any steps for early disposal of the matter. In a video shared while protesting against the government, the NRI family said that they will not go back to US till they get the justice.
The NRI family, which was the victim of the entire situation after the incident, said that they were really disturbed by the deteriorating law and order situation in Amritsar, where unidentified persons came to the wedding reception of their son and opened fire.
They added that they would never visit the state again after the incident.
So far, 15 people have been arrested in connection with the case. According to officials, the incident took place due to a dispute over the ordering of liquor from outside the designated circle. It was also informed that soon after the incident, the police registered a case and started investigation.
Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa had also demanded the suspension of Police Commissioner Arun Pal Singh. He said the CP should be suspended for his inability to control the deteriorating law and order situation in the holy city.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal had also met the victim’s NRI family and condemned the incident of firing by liquor contractors at their wedding ceremony.
