Punjab Vigilance to launch probe against a senior IPS officer in corruption case

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau is all set to rap a senior IPS officer of the state in two corruption cases. Confirming this, a senior vigilance officer said that the action was being taken after the facts of this police officer taking bribe in both the cases related to Tarn Taran came to light.
This police officer has been in the news in the past and has also started taking legal recourse to defend himself. After the formation of the AAP government in the state, it is considered to be the first action in the corruption case being taken against a senior officer who has been directly recruited as an IPS officer.
According to sources, the government had given the green signal to the Vigilance a few months ago to act on the matter. Vigilance officials say that both the cases of corruption were investigated earlier and this action is being taken after initially participating and giving time to the concerned officer to present his side regularly.
A case of corruption was registered in 2022 at Police Station Patti (City) in Tarn Taran district.
Similarly, a case under ndps act related to drug smuggling was registered in Bhikhiwind police station of Tarn Taran district in 2022.
Sources in the Vigilance said that the accused named in these two cases, who are also police personnel, had not only given a statement of involvement of the senior police officer in corruption but also placed the facts before the investigating officers. There were allegations of exchange of lakhs of rupees in these cases.
