Two brothers commit suicide in Jalandhar, ‘Controversial SHO’, his team booked: Read the whole matter

Jalandhar News: Two brothers Manavjit Singh Dhillon and Jashandeep Singh Dhillon from Jalandhar had jumped into the Beas river from the Goindwal Sahib bridge over two weeks ago accusing a Jalandhar Station House Officer for abetment of suicide.
Waking up from its deep slumber, the Punjab Police finally acted against the accused inspector and other cops into the case and booked them under 306 (abetment of suicide) and 34  (committing any criminal act involving two or more persons). They have not been arrested yet.
According to the case, Jashanbir Singh and Manavjit Singh had plunged into the Beas at the Goindwal bridge on August 17 after allegedly harassed by inspector Navdeep Singh, in-charge of police station division number 1 in the police station in front of many people.
It was alleged that Manavjit was forced to take off his turban at the police station which his brother couldn’t bear.
Jashandeep’s body was recovered yesterday after over two weeks he committed suicide while his brother’s body is still missing.
After mounting pressure, SHO shifted to police line
Earlier, the Jalandhar Commissionerate police was showing lackadaisical attitude to take action against SHO Navdeep, however, after Jalandhar Congress Committee office-bearers, workers and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders came together to seek justice for the victim’s family, police shifted SHO to police line but had not registered any criminal case.
Leaders and workers of both the political parties also organised a candle March in their hands and demanded justice from the Punjab government.
      A family dispute case
Inspector Navdeep Singh, while dismissing allegations, had claimed that it was a family dispute matter and Manavjit had filed a complaint that his friend’s sister Parminder Kaur had a dispute with her husband Gurmeet Singh and his family. On August 16, there was a quarrel between the two parties at police station Sadar.
During this time, the boy’s side misbehaved with Parminder Kaur and Manavjit. The policemen also escorted them out of the police station.
Family alleged that after some time, Manavjit was produced before SHO Navdeep Singh and he reportedly misbehaved and physically thrashed him in his room. During this time, Manavjit’s turban was tossed.
After this, the police also registered a case against Manavjit Singh Dhillon and took him into custody. Manavjit was granted bail the next evening.
The next day, Manavjit’s younger brother Jashandeep left home in the morning without informing him.
He called up in the evening and said that he was committing suicide by jumping into the river due to the humiliation done by SHO Navdeep.
He reached Goindwal Sahib to convince Jashandeep but he jumped and after that Manavjit also jumped.
It is pertinent to mention here that during the Covid-19 pandemic, inspector Navdeep Singh was embroiled in a controversy after he physically assaulted a vegetable vendor on the road.
