17-year-old powerlifter dies after 270-kg weight falls on her in Rajasthan

Jaipur: A junior national gold medal-winning powerlifter, Yashtika Acharya, died after a 270-kg weight fell on her neck while training at a gym in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district, police said on Wednesday.

The accident occurred on Tuesday when the 17-year-old was lifting weights. Naya Shahar SHO Vikram Tiwari said she suffered a fractured neck and was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Yashtika’s trainer sustained minor injuries in the incident. Police said the family has not filed any complaint, and her body was handed over to them after a postmortem on Wednesday.
