A remarkable piece of news has emerged from Uganda, garnering attention on social media these days as a 70-year-old woman, Safina Namukwaya, has recently given birth to twins, a daughter, and a son, at a hospital in the capital city of Kampala.
The birth of twins at her age is considered nothing short of a ‘miracle.’
Safina Namukwaya delivered the twins via cesarean operation at a fertility center in Kampala. According to a media report, the hospital extended its congratulations to her, acknowledging her as one of the oldest women to give birth.
Dr. Edward Tamale Sali, a fertility specialist at the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre (WHI&FC), said that Namukwaya underwent in-vitro fertilization using a donor’s egg and her partner’s sperm. Born prematurely at 31 weeks, the babies are currently healthy and under observation in incubators.
