Australia to change migration policy after Canada: Govt says rules will be tighter to improve system

After Canada, Australia is also going to tighten visa rules. This decision is difficult for Indians, especially Punjabis, who are thinking of going to Australia. The Australian government said on Monday that it would tighten visa rules for international students and low-skilled workers. This will halve the number of migrants in the next two years, as the government is considering fixing the broken migration system.
According to Australia media agency Reuters, the new policies will require international students to achieve higher ratings on English exams and more scrutiny on a student’s second visa application, which will prolong their stay.
“Our strategy will be getting migration numbers back to normal, but it’s not just about numbers and the migration experience that is happening at this moment and in our country right now,” Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neill said at a media briefing. It’s about Australia’s future.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also made it clear that Australia’s migration numbers need to be brought back to sustainable levels.
