“Historic Visit”: US President Biden lauds PM’s Ukraine visit

Washington: US President Joe Biden spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone and praised him for his message of “peace and humanitarian support” for Ukraine.

Modi’s August 23 visit to Kiev is being seen as an attempt to strike a diplomatic balance as the Biden administration had criticised his visit to Russia last month and several Western countries had expressed displeasure over it.

“I spoke to Prime Minister Modi on the phone to discuss his recent visit to Poland and Ukraine and appreciated his message of peace and humanitarian support for Ukraine,” Biden said in a post on X. We have also reaffirmed our commitment to work together to contribute to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.”
