PSPCL assistant JE sacked in Rs 4.21 crore scam 2 days before retirement, ordered to recover money

Just two days before retirement, an assistant junior engineer (JE) at PSPCL was dismissed. The assistant JE is accused of being involved in a scam of Rs 4.21 crore. Alongside the immediate dismissal of the accused JE, the Powercom has also issued orders to recover the entire amount of the scam from the individual.
The accused assistant JE, Gurdeep Singh Halka, was stationed at Powercom’s distribution sub-division Bhadaun branch in Barnala. According to Powercom’s termination order, an inquiry was conducted based on a complaint against the assistant JE regarding the commissioning of illegal tubewell connections. The investigation revealed that Gurdeep Singh had initiated illegal connections by misusing transformers and other items taken from the Barnala store outlet between 2012-2013 until the present.
He failed to submit accounts totaling about Rs 5.37 crore to the office. The investigation further discovered that the assistant JE had initiated illegal farming tubewell connections in Bhadaun and other subdivisions by misusing materials obtained from the store, resulting in a loss of Rs 37.22 lakh to Powercom.
