West Bengal: TMC leader arrested in ration scam, pelted stones at ED team

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested former Bongaon Municipal Corporation (BMC) chairman Shankar Adiya in connection with an alleged ration scam in West Bengal in the wee hours today, officials said. Shankar, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader from North 24 Parganas district, was arrested from his residence at Simutola in Bongaon after the agency raided his and his family members’ properties, officials said. The raid lasted for at least 17 hours, he said.
      When the officials started taking Shankar away after arresting him, Shankar’s supporters allegedly tried to block his way and also pelted stones at the vehicles of the officials, he said. CRPF personnel accompanying the ED team had to lathicharge the crowd to control the situation, the officials said.
