India summons German envoy for remarks on Kejriwal’s arrest
New Delhi: India has summoned the deputy chief of the German embassy to lodge its protest over his comments on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
External Affairs Ministry officials summoned German Ambassador George Enzweiler and conveyed that the German Foreign Ministry’s comments on Kejriwal’s arrest amounted to interference in India’s judicial process.
A German Foreign Ministry spokesperson had taken note of Kejriwal’s arrest.
“We believe and hope that the criteria and basic democratic principles related to the independence of the judiciary will also be applied in this case,” the German official said.
