Indian-American student denied entry to club, dies due to freezing cold

Washington: Akul Dhawan, an 18-year-old Indian-American student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in the US, died after allegedly being missing for several hours. Akul’s death took place in January.

The Champaign County coroner’s office in Illinois said this week that the “Indian-American student died of hypothermia after being intoxicated with alcohol and exposed to excessively cold temperatures for a long time.”

The student was found dead on January 20 and his body was found behind a building near the university campus in West Urbana, US state of Illinois.

After recovering the body, the police suspected Akul’s death to be hypothermia, but the campus police were investigating the real cause of death.
