Pakistani woman gives birth to baby girl in Ludhiana, mother names newborn ‘Sarhad’
Chandigarh: A Pakistani woman, returning from India, gave birth to a baby girl at Ludhiana’s civil hospital on Thursday. She aimed to reach Pakistan promptly, fearing a potential change in the child’s citizenship. Meanwhile, her husband awaited across the border. Transported to Ludhiana’s civil hospital when she went into labor on the train, doctors safely delivered the baby girl, whom the mother named ‘Sarhad.’
Muhaish, 33, had arrived in Agra from Pakistan two months ago to stay with her parents, accompanied by her two daughters. Facing visa complications, she couldn’t return to Pakistan and had to remain in India. Pregnant and nearing her delivery date, Muhaish’s brother, Jibraan Khan, was set to take her to the Attari border after completing visa formalities.
However, Muhaish went into labor before reaching Ludhiana, prompting her brother to contact emergency helpline when her condition worsened.
Upon receiving the information, the GRP became involved in the arrangements. Muhaish was lifted from the train in Ludhiana and transported to the civil hospital via ambulance, where she, a mother of two, gave birth to her third daughter. Her husband, Shoaib Raine, patiently waited across the border. The family now awaits Muhaish’s discharge from the hospital to send her home through the Attari border.
Ideally, the family had hoped for Muhaish to cross the Attari border before delivery, ensuring that the newborn would be eligible for Pakistani citizenship.
