Chandigarh youth duped of Rs 3.5 lakh on pretext of giving IELTS certificate without exam
Chandigarh: Trapped in a misleading Instagram advertisement and desiring to obtain an IELTS certificate without taking the exam, a young man from Chandigarh fell prey to fraud.
The scammers, operating online, deceived him of Rs 3.61 lakh, promising a certificate for Rs 80,000 in the deceptive advertisement.
The incident was reported to the Cyber Crime police station of Chandigarh Police, leading to the registration of a case under sections related to cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy. The police have initiated a search for the perpetrators.
The victim, Kumar Prabha of Sector 40C, was defrauded, with a thug named Ravindra orchestrating the scheme. The complainant had deposited the amount in Axis Bank as instructed.
The police are currently investigating information related to the bank account to trace the accused. Initially, the accused demanded an advance of Rs 30,000 from the complainant and persistently sought the remaining amount.
