US university turns into “war zone” to prevent pro-Palestinian protests

Washington: In many university campuses of US, students are protesting against the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Police have arrested more than 550 protesters so far and there have been clashes between police and activists at some universities.

Activists and media personnel at the scene say law enforcement officers on the orders of college administrators deployed tasers and tear gas against student protesters at Atlanta’s Emory University. However, the protests have been largely peaceful.

Emil Keme, a professor of English and indigenous studies at the university, said the scene reminded him of the Guatemalan civil war as a teenager. Keme told the Guardian what happened after police entered the Emory campus.

“The police immediately started forcing people to disperse, looking at all the police and their weapons, rubber bullets, I felt like I was in a war zone. We were pushed backwards by the police. The police took away the student standing next to me, they pushed an elderly woman and then they pushed me too.”
