New Delhi: Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar, who was serving a life sentence in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots cases, died on Thursday, according to sources at Safdarjung Hospital.
The hospital has not yet provided details about the cause of death.
The Delhi High Court had sentenced Kumar to life imprisonment on December 17, 2018, in a case involving the killing of five Sikhs and the burning of a gurdwara during the 1984 riots. He had subsequently been lodged in Tihar Jail.
In February 2025, a Delhi court also sentenced Kumar to life imprisonment in a separate case involving the killing of two Sikh men during the riots.
Kumar was a three-time Lok Sabha MP who represented the Outer Delhi constituency. He was a prominent Congress leader but resigned from the party after his conviction in 2018.
