Chandigarh: Doctors, pharmacists and nurses working at Aam Aadmi Clinics across Punjab on Monday began an indefinite strike, demanding the regularisation of their services and improved employment benefits.
The protesting employees said they had been repeatedly submitting representations to the Punjab government over the past four years seeking permanent appointments, but alleged that none of their demands had been addressed.
They claimed they were continuing to work on nominal salaries despite providing healthcare services at government-run clinics across the state.
The employees are also demanding a salary hike until their services are regularised, along with leave benefits and other employment entitlements available to regular government employees.
Jasbir Kaur, a leader of the employees’ joint front, said the strike would continue until the government accepted their demands and initiated concrete steps towards regularising their services.
The protest is expected to affect the functioning of Aam Aadmi Clinics across Punjab as employees continue their indefinite agitation.
