Amit Shah says NDA will form government in Punjab in 2027

New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah has claimed that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will form the government in Punjab after the 2027 assembly elections, amid speculation over a possible alliance between the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking at an event in Delhi, two days after his visit to Punjab, Shah launched a fresh attack on the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), alleging that drug trafficking was flourishing in the state under its patronage.

Shah said people in Punjab had made up their minds to elect an NDA government in 2027. He also targeted AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of shifting his focus to Punjab after losing the Delhi elections.

“Kejriwal has settled in Punjab after losing the elections in Delhi. He is not allowing the Punjab chief minister to work and has also disrupted the functioning of the state,” Shah alleged.

He further claimed that AAP would face a major electoral setback and said the BJP would work to eliminate drugs from Punjab by 2029.

Drug trafficking and law and order have emerged as key political issues in Punjab, with parties trading accusations over the state’s handling of the problems.

During his recent Punjab visit, Shah also met the family of slain anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta. His remarks come amid preparations by political parties for the 2027 assembly elections and renewed speculation over the BJP’s electoral strategy in the state.
