Chandigarh: MP Amritpal Singh, currently lodged in Dibrugarh jail in Assam, will contest the 2027 Punjab assembly elections from two seats, according to his party, Akali Dal-Waris Punjab De.
Senior party leader Manpreet Singh Ayali confirmed the decision and said the party’s parliamentary board would decide the two constituencies from which Amritpal Singh will contest.
Ayali said Amritpal could contest against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann from Dhuri, but the constituency has not been finalised yet.
Amritpal is currently the MP from the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha constituency in the Majha region. He won the parliamentary election with a record number of votes while being lodged in jail. The party has already declared him its chief ministerial face.
According to party sources, Dhuri, Khadoor Sahib, Talwandi Sabo and Rampura Phul are among the constituencies being considered for his assembly contest.
Amritpal is also reportedly interested in contesting from Dhuri, which is the assembly constituency represented by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
