Journey from Satauj to becoming Chief Minister has been possible because of immense love, respect, courage & spirit shown by people of Punjab: CM Bhagwant Singh Mann
Chandigarh News (Harpreet Singh): From the fields of Satauj to the office of Punjab’s Chief Minister, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s remarkable life journey was showcased today in a special 45-minute documentary, ‘Satauj To Sansad’, which premiered at 7 PM on Discovery Channel India.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, in a message to Punjabis, had urged them to watch the special show at 7 PM. “Do watch a special show based on my life journey from ‘Satauj to CM’, today at 7 PM on Discovery Channel India, airing in seven different languages. This journey has only been possible because of the immense love, respect, courage and spirit of all Punjabis,” he stated in a post on X.
The documentary offers a rare glimpse into the formative years of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann in Satauj, capturing the experiences and circumstances that shaped his personality and public life. It features the voices of his mother, Harpal Kaul, and sister, Manpreet Kaur, who share personal memories of his early years.
In the film, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann recalls working in the fields late into the night, studying in government schools and closely following developments in Punjab and the country. These early experiences of life in rural Punjab became an integral part of his understanding of the issues confronting ordinary people.
‘Satauj To Sansad’ also chronicles CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s transition from a successful entertainment career to politics, a decision rooted in his deep attachment to the land where he was born. Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann, wife of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, speaks about the personal sacrifices involved in this journey and his commitment to working round the clock for the betterment of Punjab.
The documentary also features actor and producer Binnu Dhillon, singer and former MP Mohammad Sadique, and singer, actor and producer Karamjit Singh Anmol. They speak about CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s evolution as a satirist and how his experiences helped him use humour and public platforms to highlight real, on-ground problems faced by the people of Punjab.
The film draws a link between the Chief Minister’s early experiences and the priorities of his government. CM Bhagwant Singh Mann recalls spending sleepless nights in the fields, waiting for electricity to arrive so that pumps could be started and the fields watered. The documentary captures the revival of Punjab’s canal system under his government, aimed at reducing farmers’ dependence on groundwater while conserving the state’s natural resources.
It also features grassroots stories highlighting initiatives including the Mukh Mantri Sehat Bima Yojana, free coaching for government school students appearing for competitive examinations, Yudh Nashean Virudh and Bhagwant Mann Sarkar Tuhade Dwar.
Together, these stories make ‘Satauj To Sansad’ more than a biographical account. The documentary portrays how the struggles and experiences of a young man growing up in a farming village came to shape the priorities of the government he now leads.
