BJP to contest all 117 Punjab Assembly seats alone, BL Santosh says

Patiala: BJP national general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santosh arrived in Patiala on Monday for a two-day organisational visit to Punjab, with the party ruling out speculation about a possible alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal or any other political outfit.

Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon said the party was fully prepared to contest all 117 Assembly seats in the state and would fight the upcoming elections on its own.

Santosh also confirmed the party’s standalone strategy, saying the BJP would contest all 117 seats and seek to form the government in Punjab

Addressing the party’s first zonal meeting in Patiala, Santosh said Punjab was ready for change and claimed that the BJP was prepared to lead that change. He said the party would contest the elections independently and work towards forming its government in the state.

Focus on strengthening organisation

A senior party leader said one of the BJP’s major challenges at present was keeping its traditional workers and leaders who had joined the party from other political organisations united.

During his two-day visit, Santosh will hold zonal meetings with party office-bearers from across Punjab to review organisational activities.

He is scheduled to lead important meetings in Patiala and Bathinda on Monday, with representatives from different districts taking part.

Santosh was received at Chandigarh airport by Kewal Singh Dhillon and Punjab BJP co-incharge Narinder Singh Raina.
