Mumbai: The Bombay High Court reprimanded US citizen and actor Imran Khan for participating in a protest over the CEC-SIR issue, observing that the fundamental right to protest in India is available only to Indian citizens. The actor subsequently tendered an unconditional apology to the court.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Advait Sethna said India’s generosity was reflected in the fact that an American citizen holding an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card was issued a notice to leave the country instead of being immediately deported.
Imran Khan’s lawyer, Venkatesh Dhond, immediately submitted an affidavit before the court, assuring it that the actor would not participate in any protest in the future.
The lawyer also tendered an unconditional apology on the actor’s behalf.
