Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police have recovered a suspected tiffin bomb near the Sector 43 bus stand and arrested three young men in connection with the case.
Police also recovered 5 kg of gelatin stick explosives, a pistol and five live cartridges from the suspects, according to preliminary information.
The arrested suspects have been identified as 19-year-old Lovepreet Singh from Sarhali village in Tarn Taran, 21-year-old Jashanpreet Singh from Deobath village in Tarn Taran, and 19-year-old Prabhpreet Singh from Tarsikka village in Amritsar.
Police suspect terror link
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the three men were linked to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and were allegedly in contact with Satnam Satta Naushehra, who is believed to be based abroad.
Police allege that the three had been instructed to carry out a major attack in Chandigarh using the tiffin bomb.
The suspects were apprehended following a late-night operation based on intelligence inputs. Police reportedly recovered the tiffin bomb from a bag near the Sector 43 bus stand.
A case has been registered at Sector 36 police station, and investigators are now probing the suspects’ wider network and looking for other people who may have been involved.
The investigation is ongoing.
