New Delhi: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has extended support to the opposition’s November 1 rally in Delhi, with party leader Ashutosh Ranka saying its members may participate in the event at Ramlila Maidan. The party has also indicated that it is considering joining the INDIA bloc and has sought feedback from its workers on the proposal.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday appealed to student organisations to join the November 1 march in Delhi. In a video posted on X, he urged participants not to be intimidated by the possibility of police action or lathi-charge.
Preparations for the rally were discussed at a meeting of INDIA bloc leaders at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and several other opposition leaders attended the meeting.
The INDIA bloc and CJP are protesting against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the alleged deletion of voters’ names. They are also demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Calling the march bigger than any single political party, Rahul Gandhi said it was aimed at protecting India’s Constitution, democracy and freedom of expression.
He urged people who believe that the country’s democratic institutions, constitutional values and the right to express opinions are under threat to join the November 1 march.
