New Delhi: Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Deepake has been diagnosed with typhoid, the organisation said on Saturday after he released a video informing supporters about his health.
The development comes as the Centre and the CJP are expected to hold a third round of talks on Saturday afternoon over the ongoing protests against the alleged NEET paper leak and demands for accountability in the examination system.
Ahead of the proposed meeting, Delhi Police strengthened security around Jantar Mantar late on Friday by installing additional barricades after CJP warned that it would intensify its agitation if Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan did not resign.
CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said there was little point in continuing talks with the government if Pradhan remained in office.
According to the organisation, the Centre is expected to clarify its position on the demand for the minister’s resignation during the meeting.
Following the previous round of discussions, the CJP claimed that the government had agreed in principle to provide ₹1 crore in compensation to the families of students who allegedly died by suicide following the paper leak controversy and to withdraw cases registered against protesters. The Centre has not officially confirmed these claims.
Responding to the increased security measures, Ranka said Delhi Police could not prevent people from reaching Jantar Mantar or stop volunteers from providing food and assistance to protesters, adding that the movement would continue despite the restrictions.
